Intro to Newspaper Design- Front Pages of the World

1) My favorite newspaper front page is the Watertown Daily News in New York. This is my favorite because I like that there's a variety of stories and pictures, and that the design isn't too crazy.
2) My favorite headline is "Dangerous Rescue" and I'm interested in it because it catches your eye and makes you want to read the story.
3) There are four stories on this front page.
4) All the newspapers have the same relative amount of writing and pictures. They also all have a similar design.
5) Some things that vary are the types of font, size of the font, and size of the headlines.

1) I like the top of our newspaper better than the other newspapers I looked at. I like that it isn't so crowded, which makes it look more professional. I also like that there are less stories, meaning that there's more information in the stories.
2) The headlines and the infographics stand out to me in our newspaper.
3) I found the school evaluations, gymnastics, high schoolers can fall in love, and horse back riding stories interesting.
4) I'd don't think that there's much that this newspaper needs to improve on because it's so good already.
5) This newspaper does follow the rules and guidelines that other newspapers use.
6) I'd also like to say that this newspaper is very well done.

Website Review

The website that I looked at was called Lens. This website is a part/extension of the New York Times, but it’s main use is photography. My first impression of this website was that it would include good photographs, but stories that weren’t that interesting to read. That, however, is not true; the articles and captions are very well written. The intention that is behind this website is to show important events that occurred with photographs and stories. On this website, the articles are written about events that have happened all around the world. The average viewer, by viewing the website, can receive information about interesting events, and high quality photographs to go with the story. The stories, on this website, vary in length and topics, so one can find something that interests them. If you were to view this website, then you can also see the pictures of that week, and the captions provide information about what happened in that particular photograph. The pictures of the week are always very well taken, and cool to look at. That is not only because they describe what occurred that week, but because those pictures are the best ones to do so. I don’t think that I will add this website to my bookmarks because I don’t enjoy reading articles very much. However, the website has very good photos that are captivating to look at and find the story behind them out. I would recommend this website if you want to learn about important events that have happened around the world, and look at some great photographs.

I would rate this website a five out of a scale of five. I gave it that rating because the stories are well written, and pictures are well taken.

This is one of my favorite photos from this website. It was part of The Week in Pictures: Feb10, 2017 post, and I think that it describes what’s going on right now very well. It is a picture of a border wall that is already put up in Harlingen Texas. This photo is really well taken because it shows the beautiful starry sky and then you can see the fence sticking up. It looks kind of unreal because it was taken so well. It’s a simple picture, but it speaks for itself about what is going on. I chose to share this picture on my blog because I really like how it looks and the angle it was taken at. I especially like how it was taken at night so you can see all the stars. I think that it perfectly encompasses what is going on in the United States these days.

Self Portrait vs. the Selfie

A selfie is a casual picture that one takes of oneself on a smartphone. The intent of a selfie is usually to post on social media. A selfie has recently become very important for social media purposes, as a way to express yourself and to show others what your're doing. A self portrait is a picture that you take of yourself on a professional camera. The self portrait is normally taken more seriously than a selfie, because there's more time and thought put into taking the photo.

A selfie is normally taken at arms reach, or taken of oneself in the mirror. A selfie is taken spontaneously, and as opposed to a self portrait, not much thought is taken into consideration in preparation for taken the picture. A self portrait is normally taken on a professional camera that is put on a tripod. A self portrait requires a lot of thought about the face expression, background, and clothes that are worn.

I prefer a selfie because I think that it is more relaxed and more usable for everyday pictures of oneself.
I don't think that either one is more valuable than the other one. This is because they're each used for different reasons. So, the selfie is more valuable for the purpose that it's used for, while the self portrait would be more valuable for it's purpose, as opposed to a selfie in that situation.
